Some patients may lose breast tissue due to breast cancer or trauma. Alternatively, they may not have a healthy breast due to developmental defects. In such cases, a new breast that is compatible with the patient’s body is created using either the patient’s own body tissues or silicone breast implants. Breast reconstruction is most commonly performed successfully on patients who have had breast tissue removed due to breast cancer. Different breast reconstruction techniques are available, tailored to each patient’s medical history, health condition, and physical characteristics.
